Charles E. Scheland
Artistic Director / Choreographer
Charles E. Scheland grew up in Germany, Austria, and the Washington DC area and is now a New York City based dance artist. He attended the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance program double majoring in Dance and Economics, graduating summa cum laude with departmental honors in both Dance and Economics and is also an alumnus of Jacob’s Pillow’s Contemporary Program. He is an apprentice with RIOULT Dance NY and dances for Michael Mao Dance and has danced for Choreographer’s Collaboration Project, Awaken Dance Theater, and Vertical Shadows Dance Company. Charles has been a guest artist with Princeton Dance Theater and New England Dance Theater, and he has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Elana Anderson, Robert Battle, Clifton Brown, Amy Hall Garner, Jae Man Joo, Bill T. Jones, Jessica Lang, Milton Myers, Paul Taylor, among others.
Charles teaches dance of multiple styles and techniques, specifically the Lester Horton technique, as well as staging repertory, and teaching his own works.
Charles launched CES Danceworks in 2019 to serve as a repository for his choreographic pieces and to organize the performances and upcoming events. For more information on Charles, head over to his site.
Asia Bonilla is from Trabuco Canyon, California. She started her formal dance training in Orange County, California under the guidance of Marlene Hall whom she assisted at the 24th Annual Conference of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) in Basel, Switzerland. Asia attended the Ailey Fordham BFA program, pursuing a major in dance (departmental honors) and a minor in mathematics. She has performed internationally at the Sydney Opera House during the 29th Youth Musicale Concert and at various venues throughout Nicaragua with JUNTOS Collective She has also danced with Awaken Dance Theater and VISIONS Contemporary Ballet in New York City. Asia has supplemented her training with summer intensives at Ballet Hispánico, Joffrey Ballet, and The Ailey School. She has performed works by choreographers Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, Jacqulyn Buglisi, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, among others. Asia is currently dancing with Ballet Hispánico’s second company, BHdos.
Asia has danced with Charles and CES Danceworks since the company’s inception, and as rehearsal director, she assists Charles in teaching, staging, and rehearsal operations.
