Charles Scheland

Artistic Director / Choreographer

Charles Scheland is a New York City based dance artist and teacher. Charles grew up in Germany, Austria, and the Washington DC area, and graduated summa cum laude from the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance program with a double major in Dance and Economics and departmental honors in both. Charles is currently a dancer with Carolyn Dorfman Dance and previously danced for RIOULT Dance NY and Michael Mao Dance. He has also been a guest artist with Buglisi Dance Theater, New England Dance Theater, and Alison Cook-Beatty Dance. He has performed works by Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, Bill T. Jones, Juel Lane, Jessica Lang, Milton Myers, Henning Rübsam, Paul Taylor, and others. Charles teaches ballet and Horton technique, and is Milton Myers’ assistant and demonstrator at Jacob’s Pillow, the Juilliard School, Steps on Broadway, and internationally. He is on the guest faculty at Steps on Broadway, The Ailey School, and the School at Jacob’s Pillow.

Outside of the dance studio, Charles is the Executive Assistant at Dance ICONS, and he co-hosts and co-produces a podcast with The Nerd Party network called Throwback Paperback. For more information on Charles, head over to his site.

Asia Bonilla

Rehearsal Director

Asia Bonilla is from Trabuco Canyon, California. She started her formal dance training in Orange County, California under the guidance of Marlene Hall whom she assisted at the 24th Annual Conference of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science (IADMS) in Basel, Switzerland. Asia attended the Ailey Fordham BFA program, pursuing a major in dance (departmental honors) and a minor in mathematics. She has performed internationally at the Sydney Opera House during the 29th Youth Musicale Concert and at various venues throughout Nicaragua with JUNTOS Collective. Currently, she dances for Ariel Rivka Dance, and she has danced with BHdos, Alison Cook-Beatty Dance, Awaken Dance Theater, and VISIONS Contemporary Ballet in New York City. Asia has supplemented her training with summer intensives at Ballet Hispánico, Joffrey Ballet, and The Ailey School. She has performed works by choreographers Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, Jacqulyn Buglisi, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, among others.

Asia has danced with Charles and CES Danceworks since the company’s inception, and as rehearsal director, she assists Charles in teaching, staging, and rehearsal operations.
